Windows sound is not working: find sound drivers with Windows Update


If your Windows sound is not working and it’s due to having missing or corrupt sound drivers you can often find the sound drivers you need with Windows Update.

Use Windows Update to find the sound drivers you need

STEPS 1 & 2: Open Windows Update through your Start Menu and typing “Windows Update”. Click on the Windows Update icon/link to open it.

STEPS 3, 4, & 5: Once on the Windows Update screen you should see any updates if they are available. In the example, there are important updates and optional updates. Click the links to view details about these updates. Often drivers may be a part of the update. Click on the button Install Updates. Note: you may need to restart your computer to apply changes.

Windows sound still not working after running Windows Update?

Did you determine if your computer has audio hardware installed in device manager?

Did you check to make sure your sounds are not muted, that your speaker volume knob is turned up, and that there is a power (your speakers plugged into a power outlet)?

Did you make sure you have a sound playback device enabled?

Did you check to make sure your speakers are connected to the back of your computer?
